Uganda safari Overview 

This 10 days Uganda Primates & Masai Mara Safari is intended for anyone who is looking for an epic encounter with the gentle Mountain gorillas as well as man’s closest wild relatives the chimpanzees as you’re set to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale National Park that are famous for their epic gorilla and chimpanzee adventures respectively. During these 10 days, you will also visit Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve that are highly revered for their epic safari memories. Masai Mara Reserve is home to 4 out of 5 of Africa’s Savanna big five wild mammals which are the African lion, the Elephant, Cape Buffaloes, and the Leopard. Some of the other wild mammals you won’t miss during this tour include the Plain zebras, Masai Giraffes, Rothchild giraffes, the wildebeests.

Uganda Safari Highlights 

Day 1: Arrival and pick up from Entebbe airport and transfer to a hotel in Entebbe

Day 2: You will be picked up early in the morning at 7:00am and embark on a full day transfer to Kibale National Park.  

Day 3: Day 3 will see you engage in Chimpanzee trekking, Bigodi wetland & community walk.

Day 4: Today you will transfer to Bwindi Park 

Day 5: Today you will engage in Mountain Gorilla trekking in Bwindi and transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

Day 6: Transfer to Kihihi airstrip and fly to Entebbe and connect with your flight to Nairobi 

Day 7: Drive to Masai Mara and engage in an afternoon game drive

Day 8: Full day of exploring Masai Mara

Day 9: Enjoy a second day of unlimited game drives in Mara

Day 10: Transfer to Nairobi where the safari ends

Detailed Uganda Safari itinerary

Day 1: Arrival, meet and greet then transfer to a hotel in Entebbe 

You will be picked up from Entebbe international airport upon your arrival and transferred to your hotel in Entebbe where you will relax from as you recover from your flight jet lag.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale 

Day 2 of this Uganda safari begins with an early morning pick up from your hotel in Entebbe by one of our safari guides who will take your through a short briefing about this entire trip before you undertake a thrilling 350km or 6-7 hours journey to one of Uganda’s premier wildlife destinations Kibale park. As you enjoy his drive you will get to meet numerous Ugandans going about their day to day activities. When you arrive in Fort Portal town, you will have a lunch break which consists of an array of continental dishes prepared from freshly handpicked ingredients. After your sumptuous lunch you will embark on the rest of your journey to your lodge. You will be welcomed to your lodge in Kibale by warm, friendly and all smiling Ugandan faces of the staff at the lodge that will usher you into your room. You will have the rest of the evening off to yourself to rest from this long journey to this park. Dinner will be served later in the evening and then you will retire to your bedroom for the night as you wait to meet the fascinating chimpanzees the following day.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in the morning with a visit to Bigodi community in the afternoon

The morning of this day kicks off with an amazing breakfast that is aimed at energizing for the thrilling chimpanzee trek that’s ahead of you. You will be transferred by your guide to the park center in Kanyanchu where you get to go through a short briefing about the entire chimpanzee trekking experience. From here in a company of park ranger, embark on jungle walk as you search for these great humans of the wild the chimpanzees and the highlight of the day will be when you get to meet these exciting creatures you will be wowed by how much in common we do have with these great apes as they laugh, hug and kiss just like humans do and also look after the young ones. Besides the chimpanzees, you should also not miss out on the sightings of several other primates that call this forest their home and these include the black and white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, Grey monkeys. After the chimpanzee encounter which lasts an hour of pure enjoyment return to the park center where your trekking efforts are rewarded with a trekking certificate. From here, have a lunch break then transfer to Bigodi community where you get to engage in a community encounter with the locals and see how they live their daily lives, watch them or even engage in some of their days to day activities such coffee picking, local brew making and as you undertake this community thriller, you will take part in the coffee-making process right from planting process, harvesting red ripe coffee berries, sun drying process, then coffee pounding and finally making your own cup of coffee that is freshly brewed from the coffee that’s grown by these locals.

Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi with enroute game drive in Ishasha sector

Day 4 will have you transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable park which is home to the biggest primates on earth the giant mountain gorillas.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi 

This day you will get you to actually meet the gorillas as you engage in a memorable gorilla trekking experience which will have you meet these gentle giants in their natural habitat. You will spend an hour observing these majestic creatures in order to have an understanding their habits which aren’t far from our own. In the afternoon after returning from the trek, you will spend the afternoon free relaxing at the lodge.

Day 6: Transfer to Kisoro airstrip and fly to Entebbe airport 

On the last day of this safari, you will transfer to Kisoro airstrip and fly back to Entebbe airport to connect with your flight to Nairobi Kenya landing at Jomo Kenyatta airport. You will be picked by our safari guide in Kenya and transferred to your hotel in Nairobi.

Day 7: Transfer to Masai Mara and engage in an afternoon game drive

This day kicks off with a transfer to Masai Mara. Masai Mara lies about 260km or 4-5 hours’ drive. Upon you arrival to Masai Mara, you will undertake an afternoon game drive which is meant to give you an encounter with some of the big five dwellers such as the largest land mammal the African Elephants, the king of the jungle lions which you might spot patrolling their territories, the cape buffaloes that roam the grasslands of these Masai plains, the African Leopards that are famous for their stealth abilities that enable them to catch their prey with surprise. Beyond the big five you still have a chance to see numerous wild dwellers such as Wildebeests, Plain Zebras, and Masai Giraffes and many more. It is safe to note that Masai Mara has the highest concentration of predators more than anywhere else in Kenya.

Day 8: Full day exploring Mara

This day will commence with the guide taking you on a morning game drive adventure as you follow some of the game tracks that will reveal to you more of the hidden wonders of Mara. If you are a birding enthusiast, you’re in the right place because Masai Mara is home to over 500 bird species and this game drive will surely put in a prime position to see several of these birds which include the secretary birds, Sooty Chat, Usambiro barbets, Swahili Sparrow. After about 3-4 hours of endless exploration, you will return to your lodge to catch your breathe and also have lunch. After lunch you will go back out their and engage in a second game drive to further your chances of seeing more of your favourite wild game and birds. You will return to the lodge in the evening and settle in for dinner after which you can choose to enjoy watching the stars light up the skies if the skies are clear and also listen to the numerous calls made by the wild mammals that call this reserve home. After all this, you can retire to your bed and rest for the day. Besides doing game drives, you can choose to engage in any other optional activities at an extra fee that are available in Mara such as a wild hot air balloon experience which will see you wake up very early in the morning and take to the skies over Mara. The beauty of experience is that, it gives you a bird’s eye view of the sprawling plains hence enabling you to view all its dwellers from a vantage point.

Day 9: Second day of unlimited game drives

You will get to wake up to the amazing wild melodies of Masai Mara as you get to hear various animals sound their alarms and birds twitter to welcome the new day. You will have breakfast then go for a morning game drive to perhaps a different sector of Mara then an afternoon game drive is also available should you need it. You can also choose to opt to visit a Masai community at an extra fee. A visit to any of these communities that dot the Mara plains puts in you a great space to come close to these amazing people that have managed to co-exist with the wild animals that are found here for thousands of years. You will also have a chance to interact with Masai warriors who are highly rated for their spear throwing skills and, in the past, these guys were highly revered for their bravely as they only got these titles through managing to kill lions with their spears. However due to conservation efforts, this practice has been largely abandoned by many these people hence nothing should worry you in that regard. You will also have a chance to enjoy the rather rhythmic Masai dance which involves these towering Masai men jump to towering heights while not bending any part of their body.

Day 10: Transfer back to Nairobi

This is your last day in Masai Mara and you will check out of your lodge and embark on a 270km or 4-5 hours drive back to Nairobi where your safari ends.
