This 9 Days Rwanda Primates and Kenya wildlife safari is aimed at giving you the best primate encounters in Rwanda as well as epic encounters with the wild savanna mammals of Kenya. While on this Rwanda safari, you will have an encounter with chimpanzees as you are set to visit Nyungwe Forest national park which is home to these spectacular primates. The highlight of this safari will be a memorable encounter with the gentle giants the mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National park coupled with a visit to Masai Mara which is the home to numerous savanna wild mammals of Africa.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali intl. airport, meet and greet and transfer to your hotel in Kigali
Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest
Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes and visit Ibyi’wacu community
Day 5: Engage in gorilla trekking and transfer to Kigali airport for your flight to Nairobi
Day 6: Transfer to Masai Mara and enjoy an afternoon game drive
Day 7: This is a day that will be fully spent conversing the Mara reserve

Detailed safari itinerary
Day 1: Meet and greet and transfer to hotel in Kigali
Arrival and pick up from Kigali and then you will be transferred to your hotel in Kigali to unwind from the jetlag

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest Park
This day will have you transfer from Kigali to Ngungwe Forest National Park, Nyungwe Forest NP is located 225km or 4-5 hours drive away from Kigali. While on this journey you will encounter numerous Rwandans going about their daily activities and these will range from trade to farming their lands. Also, expect to be blown away by the amazing rolling hills of Rwanda which surely confirm to you why this country is referred to as the land of a thousand hills.

Day 3: 08th June 2025: Trek the Chimpanzees
On this you will have a chance to have an upclose encounter with the man’s closest wild cousin the chimpanzees as you engage in an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe forest national park which is home to these humbling primates. Accommodation: Ngungwe Top View Lodge

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes Park and visit the Ibyiwacu community
Day 4 will have you transfer to Volcanoes park which is home to the biggest primates on earth the giant mountain gorillas. Upon your arrival here, you will engage in a community visit to Ibiwacu community which is found on the peripherals of this park. Here you will get to see for yourself firsthand how these locals have managed to share these lands with the wild dwellers that are so close to them. You will also get to see how the park has immensely helped in improving the lives of these communities as way of ensuring that they peacefully co-exist with gorillas without getting the urge to hunt them. Both these optional activities can only be done at an extra cost hence if you wish to indulge in them, its advisable that you can some extra money to pay for any of them.

Day 5: Trek the gorillas and transfer to Kigali airport for a flight to Nairobi
This day you will get you to actually meet the gorillas as you engage in a memorable gorilla trekking experience which will have you meet these gentle giants in their natural habitat. You will spend an hour observing these majestic creatures in order to have an understanding their habits which aren’t far from our own. In the afternoon after returning from the trek, you will depart from Volcanoes Park. After your encounter with the gorillas, you will transfer back to Kigali airport for a domestic flight to Nairobi Kenya. Upon landing at Jomo Kenyatta Intl. airport, you will be picked up by our guide who will transfer you to your hotel in Nairobi

Day 6: Transfer to Masai Mara and do an afternoon game drive here.
This day commences with an early morning departure from Nairobi as you embark on a 270km or 4-5 hours’ drive to Masai Mara National Reserve. Upon your arrival to Masai Mara, you will undertake an afternoon game drive which is meant to reveal to you the hidden wonders of the Mara plains.

Day 7: Full day in Mara for unlimited game drives
The day commences with a sumptuous breakfast that’s not only aimed at giving your taste buds a thrill of Magical Kenya’s food but also to feel you up so that you can have a wonderful game drive experience without worrying about being hungry. The guide will take you on a morning game drive adventure as you follow some of the game tracks that will ensure to maximize your chances of having an encounter with some of the big five dwellers such as the largest land mammal the African Elephants, the king of the jungle lions which you might spot patrolling their territories, the cape buffaloes that roam the grasslands of these Masai plains, the African Leopards that are famous for their stealth abilities that enable them to catch their prey with surprise. Beyond the big five you still have a chance to see numerous wild dwellers such as Wildebeests, Plain Zebras, and Masai Giraffes and many more. It is safe to note that Masai Mara has the highest concentration of predators more than anywhere else in Kenya. After about 3-4 hours of endless exploration, you will return to your lodge to catch your breath and also have lunch. After lunch you will go back out into the Mara wilderness and engage in a second game drive to further your chances of seeing more of your favourite wild game and birds. You will return to the lodge in the evening and settle in for dinner after which you can choose to enjoy watching the stars light up the skies if the skies are clear and also listen to the numerous calls made by the wild mammals that call this reserve home. After all this, you can retire to your bed and rest for the day.

Day 8: Another day in Masai Mara
You will get to wake up to the amazing wild melodies of Masai Mara as you get to hear various animals sound their alarms and birds twitter to welcome the new day. You will have breakfast then go for a morning game drive to perhaps a different sector of Mara then an afternoon game drive is also available should you need it.

Day 9: Drive back to Nairobi
This is your last day in Masai Mara and you will check out of your lodge and embark on a 270km or 4-5 hours drive back to Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Intl. airport where your safari ends.
