How to Apply & Essential Guidelines
East Africa Visa & Travel Requirements
Important: Visa policies are subject to change. Please verify the latest requirements on the official government websites before traveling.
VISITING KENYA
All Foreign non-residents who wish to travel to Kenya with an exception of Kenyan and East African Citizens, do need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). This includes infants and children. The ETA must be obtained online by clicking on this link here https://etakenya.go.ke/ before start of travel.
Applicants are advised to submit in their applications up to 3 months prior to the travel date. Successful applicants will receive an ETA receipt containing a reference number that will be sent to the email address used during the application process. It’s very imperative to note that usually the standard processing time for an ETA is three working days.
Kenya Visa Requirements for Travellers – How to Apply for an ETA:
- Passport with at least 6 months validity and one blank page (you will upload or take a photo of it in the process)
- Scan of a passport type photo or webcam to take a selfie
- Arrival and departure details and these can include airlines, flight numbers and you need to upload your flight ticket
- Accommodation booking confirmation(s) which you will need to upload. You can always contact us before and we send to you our safari confirmation voucher which you can upload
- Credit card, debit card, Apple pay or other means of payment
- No proof of Covid vaccination or negative PCR test needed.
- Yellow fever vaccination is required if travelling from a yellow fever endemic country, see here.
VISITING TANZANIA & ZANZIBAR
If you’re travelling to Tanzania & Zanzibar or either, you will need to obtain a visa online and this takes around 10 working days to be approved. However, unlike Kenya or Uganda, you can get your Visa processed at any point of entry to Tanzania & Zanzibar such as the international airports in Tanzania and Zanzibar like Kilimanjaro airport and Dar es Salaam airports or at any land border points of entry.

After securing your Visa, it’s advisable that you print the obtained eVisa which you will then present to the immigration officer at the port of entry.
If you opt for your visa on arrival you have to pay the visa fee of 50 USD for an ordinary visa or 100 USD for a multi-entry visa per person in cash.
Children i.e. persons under the age of 18 who possess their own passports need their own visas hence you will follow the same procedure to secure their own eVisa. Minors who are included on their parent’s or guardian’s passport can be included on their parent’s/guardian’s visa.
Tanzania Online Visa Requirements for Travellers – How to Apply:
- Travellers need a passport with at least 6 months validity.
- No proof of Covid vaccination or negative PCR test needed.
- Yellow fever vaccination is required if travelling from a yellow fever endemic country, see here.
- Travellers to Zanzibar need to obtain a mandatory Travel Insurance from Zanzibar Insurance Cooperation before arrival in Zanzibar through https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/ . Ensure to start this process a few days before travel. Please note that this can also be gotten at any Zanzibar
VISITING UGANDA
Travellers to Uganda, unless exempted as shown on the website need to obtain a visa online following this link here. https://www.visas.immigration.go.ug/#/apply This Uganda visa application takes around 3 working days to be approved. It is not mandatory but recommended that you print the approval letter that you will receive on the email address that you included in your visa application. While at the Ugandan point of entry, the immigration officer will use the barcode in the approval letter for accessing your application, printing your visa and pasting it to your passport. Children (under the age of 18) who have their own passports need their own visas. Minors who are included on their parent’s or guardian’s passport can be included on their parent’s/guardian’s visa.
Uganda Online Visa Requirements for Travellers – How to Apply:
- Travellers need a passport with at least 6 months validity.
- No proof of Covid vaccination or negative PCR test needed.
- Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory.
- It may be difficult to access money. Traveller’s cheques, credit cards and debit cards aren’t widely accepted.
VISITING RWANDA
While travelling to Rwanda, you need to have a Visa unless you’re a citizen to one of the several countries whose citizens are eligible for free visas on arrival or don’t need a visa need to obtain a visa online. When you apply for a Rwandan visa, it will take about around 7 working days. This Visa can be obtained https://irembo.gov.rw/home/citizen/all_services (choose visa application). Just like Tanzania and Zanzibar, you can also obtain your Rwandan visa at any point of entry in Rwanda
After acquiring your Rwanda visa online, it is advisable that you make a print out of the Visa and present the printed eVisa to the immigration officer at the port of entry. Children below 16 years don’t need their own eVisa.
Rwanda Online Requirements for Travellers – How to Apply:
- Travellers need a passport with at least 6 months validity.
- A negative PCR test taken within 72 hours before visiting primates (Gorillas, Chimpanzees, Golden Monkeys etc) in Volcanoes, Nyungwe, and Gishwati-Mukura National Parks is mandatory for all travellers incl. children above 5 years. Covid-19 testing facilities are available for all travellers whose final travel destination necessitates having one.

***PLEASE NOTE:
You can have a single Visa for travel between the East African Countries except Tanzania. The East African Tourist Visa allows for multiple entries to each Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda – but NOT Tanzania. It is valid for 90 days and cannot be extended. You must obtain this visa from the country that is the first entry point – if this country doesn’t issue a visa on arrival you need to obtain it online.
For travel to Tanzania you need to apply for a separate visa.
